Internships are an excellent way to get on-the-job experience and a foothold in the industry before graduation. Undergraduate film students in both the BA and BFA stream have the opportunity to pursue an internship for academic credit in their third or fourth year of study.
These industry placements involve on-site work with an approved company, organization or individual in the field of film, video, television and related media. While students are expected to take the initiative in sourcing their internship opportunity, the Department of Film provides advice and guidance, and liaises with client organizations to ensure clarity and consonance with internship parameters and student learning objectives.
Our students have completed internships with many leading Toronto-based filmmakers, production companies, film festivals, equipment firms, broadcasters and distributors. Recent industry partners and placement venues include:
- Images Film Festival
- Inside-Out Film Festival
- Mongrel Media
- POV Magazine
- P.S. Production Services
- Sim Video
- Tattersall Sound
- Toronto International Film Festival
- White Pine Pictures
- Wm. F. White International Inc.
Professional filmmakers who have provided internship opportunities include Peter Mettler, Peter Lynch, Patricia Rozema, Jeremy Podeswa, Amnon Buchbinder, Deepa Mehta, Ingrid Veninger, John Greyson, Wiebke von Carolsfeld, Maureen Judge and Manfred Becker.
